Admission in MBBS, BDS & Post Graduate Courses
General Information
CMC admits 175 students to MBBS & 50 students to BDS course annually on the
basis of merit. Both male and female students are eligible for admission. A
numbers of foreign nationals (not exceeding 10 per session) can also apply for
admission. These candidates must be from the countries with which the Government
of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh his cultural agreements and/or other type
of relevant Diplomatic understandings. They are selected for admission throgh
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health and family Welfare
and for most of them the tuition fees are waived.
Currently, students from Bhutan, India, Iran, Jordan, Malaysia, Nepal,
Palestine, Pakistan, Somalia, Srilanka and Sudan are studying in the in the
various phases of MBBS course in CMC.
Eligibility
Every year eligibility and all other admission related matters are determined by
the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Bangladesh. However, the
basic requirement for admission in a Medical and a Dental college in Bangladesh
is a candidate must have Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher School
Certificate (HSC) examination. It is also required that a candidate must have
Biology, Chemistry and Physics among the subjects taken in HSC.
Admission
Selection of candidates for admission into both MBBS and BDS courses are taken
on the national basis. The Director General of Health Services conducts the
nation-wide examination through the Director of Medical Education and Health
Manpower Development every year.
Successful candidates are required to appear before Scrutiny Committee with all
their original academic certificates. Following scrutiny, they will have to
undergo medical fitness tests given in the specific college of admission
according to a declared schedule, those who pass the medical tests, have to pay
the admission fees etc. They are declared to have been provisionally admitted
into the concerned college. Subsequently, the Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh confirms admission
through a gazette notification.
Post Graduate Courses
There are 31 Post Graduate Courses in different disciplines running in CMC. The
selection of students in various post graduate courses is done by the local
admission committee under the directives of Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare and DGHS. The Admission test for MD,MS courses is held on the last
Friday of September & Mphil, MPH and all Diploma courses is held on the last
Friday of March. Each year classes of MD, MS Courses start in January and Mphil,
MPH, Diploma Courses begin in July. Chittagong Medical College (CMC) is one of
the few Medical Colleges in Bangladesh which has postgraduate courses along with
graduation courses (MBBS and BDS). The postgraduate medical education program
was introduced in 1992, with three diploma courses in Child Health (DCH),
Gynecology and Obstetrics (DGO) and Anesthesiology (DA).
In 2002, a total of 28 post graduate courses wereaddedin various
clinical, paraclinical and basic subjects.
In 2005, Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology and Head heck surgery and MD in Forensic
Medicine were included.
Among the 31 Post graduate (PG) courses MD in 9 disciplines, Mphil in 6
disciplines, MPH in 1 discipline and diplomas in 7 disciplines. All the Post
Graduate courses are organized as per the recommended ordinance & curriculum of
the University of Chittagong. These courses are recognized by BMDC.
